How to get rid of stretch marks

If you had undergone pregnancy or sudden weight change, do not panic when you notice streaks of white and brown lines of stretch marks.

Stretch marks develop when the elastic fiber of dermis (deeper layer of skin) is damaged and unable to regenerate fast enough due to excessive stretching. It is common to have stretch marks on your body in regions such as stomach and thighs. If you are stressed out about it, there are a few ways you can consider to reduce and remove the appearance of these stretch marks.

If your stretch marks are red, they are considered to be ‘fresh’ whereas for stretch marks that are white or brown, they are considered to be the older. Although it is common for people to develop stretch marks, it does not mean that you have to live with them forever. There is always a solution and it is possible to remove them through laser treatment.

Depending on the type, colour and size of your stretch marks, doctors may recommend you with different forms of laser treatment. Some of the common lasers that doctors used are fraxel and pulsed dye laser. These laser treatments have the ability to break down stretch marks and improve the appearance. They also aid in reducing the problem of colour pigmentation by evening out your skin tone.

For the laser treatment to have optimum result, it is recommended for the patient to go through about 5 sessions of treatment within a month. However, it also depends on the type and size of your stretch marks as mentioned earlier.

Since the laser treatment is a non-invasive procedure, most people do not feel pain and it is important to consult the doctor-in-charge if you feel any discomfort after the treatment. For new mothers who wish to remove their stretch marks, it is suggested that they should only seek such laser treatments 6 months after their child birth.

If you are someone seeking for natural remedies, there are many stretch marks removal creams out there in the market that you can try. Doctors recommend using creams that contains Vitamin A, E and shea and cocoa butter. However, do remember that compared to laser treatment, stretch marks cream will take a longer time and reduce the appearance of them. It is also unlikely to remove stretch marks completely with the use of creams only.
